So I have heard the people's laments (aka BLowe's whining), and will respond with a new entry. Sorry it took so long. Been home for Christmas, spending time with my little nephew, relaxing. It takes a lot of hard work to do nothing, and I need a break from time to time. Anyway, I was talking to one of my sisters, then all of a sudden half my family (and it's a pretty big family) was piling on about government and unemployment and government-built highways (not sure how that last one got in there, but my brother brought it up). I started to respond, but it basically got to the point where I could either continue to figuratively bang my head into a wall or decide not to play that game, so I just stopped. I'm not sure if they were annoyed or felt like they won, but they definitely didn't win. I do wish I had responded when my little sister said that capitalism doesn't allow for morality or culture. As if these things only exist because the government brings them into existence by intruding on people's lives.
I think I need to invent/find a new word for capitalism, because people hear it and apparently think that in it everyone has to devote themselves 100% to making money and basically work themselves to death. In reality capitalism is about each person figuring out for themselves what is best for their own life, whether that is in business, or helping others, or raising a family, or finding something you love but which may or may not pay well, or something else completely. The word capitalism apparently suggests too narrow a view of the world, so hopefully I'll find a new term. I'll keep you posted.
