So there's talk of Roger Clemens returning to Boston to end his career with the Red Sox. This sounds like a great idea. And by great I mean awful. Clemens, or as I like to call him, Satan, is, as far as I'm concerned, not welcome back. People ask what he did to cause so much hatred. Read this site, Is Roger Clemens really the Antichrist?, and hopefully you'll understand. To sum it up quickly, he's a liar, ingrate, and basically tanked two of his last four seasons here.
Management seems to be saying that they don't care about his history, that all they care about is if he would help the ballclub. Sounds good in theory, but here's why it doesn't work. If a lot of people think like I do, Clemens will be booed relentlessly. As much as you want to say that won't affect the team's performance, it will. It would definitely affect Clemens, and it wouldn't take long for the media to jump all over it. It would be a huge distraction for the whole team in short order. I don't want to see another year wasted away because of stupid things like this.
I will say this for The Rocket. I believe everyone can be redeemed. However, he has to take the first step. What that would be in this case, I don't know. But that's really not my problem. If he somehow demonstrates a change for the better, I will welcome him back.
